Summary:
GPS support was requested to obtain ice stream velocities along a profile across part of Ice Stream C to correlate with borehole observations from the base of the ice stream. Training on GPS field procedures and full field support were provided at the UPC camp. A long baseline tie was made between McMurdo and UPC to establish absolute reference coordinates for the project. All local surveys were tied to this point. In November, two velocity profile lines consisting of evenly spaced stakes were placed and surveyed using both stop-and-go kinematic and rapid static techniques. The survey was repeated in January, resulting in an accurate velocity profile being obtained during one field season. All data processing was done by the UNAVCO field engineer.
