Summary: Colin Harris made a late request for GPS support to assist with mapping sites of environmental interest around the McMurdo region.  These sites fall under Antarctic Specially Managed Areas (ASMA) and Antarctic Specially Protected Areas (ASPA), and the National Science Foundation contracted the services of a UK firm, Environmental Research and Assessment to assist with environmental monitoring and carefully map points of interest of these areas.  UNAVCO provided two portable GPS systems and extensive training to the two member field team. UNAVCO engineers were able to overcome obstacles presented by personal GPS gear brought by the team and ultimately contributed to a very successful season.
