Summary:
The helicopter crash on January 17 of 2003 resulted fuel spill onto the surface of Lake Fryxell. Core samples were taken for chemical analysis both in January of 2003 and in December of the same year. Flags on bamboo poles were stuck into the ice to mark sample locations; the accessible locations of the samples taken in December 2003 were surveyed to map out sample locations. Some of the sample sites from January 2003 were also measured to try to determine horizontal motion of the surface ice.
