Summary: Dr. Stacey Kim has introduced a novel new concept in the field of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) by developing a form factor that allows the robot to be launched through a 6 inch diameter hole in the sea ice.  Underwater navigation is controlled via precisely positioned transducers dropped through the ice.  UNAVCO assisted in pre-locating multiple dive holes and transducer positions for the instrument.  One of these holes was used to successfully relocate a dive experiment placed on the ocean floor 40 years ago that no diver had been able to revisit since.  Unavco also provided RTK equipment and training, allowing the group to set up dive locations in a variety of field locations.
