Summary: I-345 aims to determine whether Kamb Ice Stream in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is in the process of restarting, and to understand the mechanism enabling or preventing surging depending on their findings. UNAVCO built six winter-over systems (4 Trimble 5700s, 2 Trimble 4000s) designed to log continuously and maintain power partway through the winter. Each system is equipped with solar panels, and will start logging data again when the sun comes back in the spring. UNAVCO also provided three more Trimble 5700 systems for summer use. |
