Summary:
Recent observations show that the major ice streams draining the West Antarctic ice sheet are affected significantly on short time scales (twice daily) by ocean tides. Twenty-one GPS instruments were installed on and around the ice streams of the West Antarctic ice sheet for the first season of detailed study. UNAVCO provided field support and 15 geodetic GPS receivers (10 Trimble 5700s, five Trimble 4000s). Eight of the GPS receivers were collocated with arrays of passive seismic instruments.
