2020 Seismology Instrumentation for Rapid Response to Geohazards

Course Information

  • Dates: Thursday, August 20, 2020
  • Time: 9-11 am PT | 10 am-12 pm MT | 11 am-1 pm CT | 12-2 pm ET
  • Location: Online via Zoom

As part of the SAGE Frontier funding, over the next several years IRIS will be implementing a system of instruments dedicated to rapid response efforts for geohazard events, considering such concepts as ultra-portable packaging concepts, mesh-network telemetry, and combined seismic-GNSS capability.

IRIS has convened several community gatherings to learn about and understand the rapid response needs of our community. These gatherings, beginning with a SIG at last year’s SSA, have taken place in-person and online. For a full listing of events, including recordings and links to presentations, please visit www.iris.edu/rapid.

This SIG will provide the community with an opportunity to preview the draft rapid response white paper. We will be seeking community input on the white paper text and its recommendations in order to ensure that upcoming instrument procurement plans meet the diverse needs of our community for future rapid response efforts.

To follow further developments on this initiative and see the final white paper when it is completed, see IRIS Rapid Response to Geohazards
