Web Services

UNAVCO is working to provide unified access to our Web Services based on consistent interfaces and best practices. Currently, only a portion of UNAVCO Web Services are now presented in this unified format and are listed here by instrument/sensor type, e.g., GPS/GNSS or Geodetic Imaging, and data type, e.g., Metadata or Time Series Data. All of them are currently Beta services. This suite of unified web services will become more comprehensive over time. Our various non-unified web services are also listed here for completeness.

See our Release Notes for a list of changes in the current release and past releases.

Index

Production Web Services

The following web services are considered production quality and may be used without reservation.

GPS/GNSS

GPS/GNSS data refer to raw measurements collected from GPS/GNSS receivers and antennas at survey points; processed results such as geodetic positions of survey points; or geologic velocities of those points.

Geodetic Imaging

Geodetic Imaging data is data collected by techniques that use electromagnetic waves for tracking centimeter-scale motions at the Earth’s surface over several square meters to hundreds of square kilometers. Such methods include LIDAR and SAR (synthetic aperture radar).

  • Other Non-Unified Web Services

    • SAR API - [REST]
Provides data and metadata for UNAVCO's SAR data holdings via a variety of query parameters. NOTE: These services are being maintained although they do not conform to our new unified web services design and are listed here for completeness.
  • Time Series Data

Time series data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., CSV

  • Metadata

Metadata web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., CSV, JSON, XML, etc.

  • Event Data

Event data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., CSV.

  • Spatial Data

Spatial data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., KML.

Beta Web Services

The following web services are considered Beta quality. Use them with this in mind. We are planning production quality releases of these services in the future.

GPS/GNSS

GPS/GNSS data refer to raw measurements collected from GPS/GNSS receivers and antennas at survey points; processed results such as geodetic positions of survey points; or geologic velocities of those points.

  • Time Series Data

  • Metadata

    • GPS/GNSS Location Metadata - [REST]
Provides station/site metadata for sites within a specified spatial bounding box.
    • Station Metadata - [REST]
Retrieves a subset of station metadata for all stations or the list of stations provided.
  • Events

  • Spatial Data

  • Event Data

Event data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., CSV.

  • Spatial Data

Spatial data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., KML.

Borehole Measurements

Geodetic strain data is collected by four-component deep borehole tensor strainmeters that record transient deformation signals yielding information about the physical properties of the surrounding rock. Pore pressure and temperature readings are collected by pore pressure sensors co-located with borehole strainmeters. Tilt data is collected by shallow borehole tiltmeters co-located with borehole strainmeters and seismic stations.

  • Time Series Data

    • Strain Level 2 Time Series Data - [REST]
Provides strain level 2 data for a given station and time range. Data returned includes uncorrected and corrected strain for each channel, and uncorrected and corrected values for areal, differential extension, and shear strain.
    • Pore Pressure Time Series Data - [REST]
Provides pore pressure time series data collected from deep borehole pore pressure sensors. Returns epoch and pressure in hectoPascals.
    • Pore Temperature Time Series Data - [REST]
Provides pore temperature time series data collected from deep borehole pore sensors. Returns epoch and temperature.
    • Tilt Time Series Data - [REST]
Provides tiltmeter time series data for a given station and time range. Data returned includes micro radian values for x and y axis and borehole temperature.

Meteorological

Meteorological data are collected along with GPS/GNSS and other forms of geophysical data to enhance the datasets, contribute to network monitoring information, and provide additional information for interpretation of deformation signals.

  • Time Series Data

    • Meteorological Time Series Data - [REST]
Provides meteorological time series data collected by instruments at the specified GPS/GNSS station in a given time range.

Seismic

UNAVCO maintains more than 70 borehole seismometers as part of the PBO Borehole Seismic Network with sites. The sensors are Sonde-2 seismometers. The data set generated by the PBO Borehole Seismic Network has become an integral component to research being done in regional seismic networks, such as those in Anza, California, and Yellowstone National Park.

  • Time Series Data

  • Metadata

Metadata web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., CSV, JSON, XML, etc.

  • Event Data

  • Spatial Data

Spatial data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., KML.

Strain

Borehole strainmeters measure very small changes in the dimension of a borehole at depths ranging from 100m to 250m. The Plate Boundary Observatory uses a instrument developed and constructed by GTSM Technologies which measure the change in borehole diameter along three azimuths separated by 120 degrees perpendicular to the borehole.

  • Strain L2 Time Series - [REST]
Get borehole strain data for the borehole strainmeter station identified. This data is low rate, 5 minute sample, level 2 uncorrected and corrected strain data.

Miscellaneous

In addition to geodetic sensor data, UNAVCO provides web services for a variety of miscellaneous UNAVCO assets.

  • Station Images

  • Metrics

  • Spatial Data

Spatial data web services will be listed here that provide results in a variety of formats, e.g., KML.

Deprecated Web Services

The following web services are deprecated and will remain available to provide time for users to update their code. Please see their new equivalent (if available) in the Production area.
