Workshop Toward a Unified GPS Network in Mexico
The Workshop Toward a Unified GPS Network in Mexico was held at the Dreams Puerto Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, September 20-22, 2010. The broad plan for the 2.5-day workshop included introductory presentations about the research potential and practical benefits of a unified Mexican GPS network, the present status of continuous GPS operations in Mexico, and lessons learned from building the 1100+ station Plate Boundary Observatory GPS network in the United States.
Sessions about ongoing GPS studies of atmospheric, hydrologic, ionospheric, seismotectonic, and volcanic processes in Mexico occurred during the first day of the meeting. The remainder of the meeting focused on the next steps in the process, including inter-institutional agreements, proposals for co-funding the unified network, the logistics and time line for upgrading and building the unified GPS network and data archive, and funding for its operation and maintenance.
