UNAVCO's 2018 RESESS interns traveled to Washington, D.C. from December 10 - 14 to present their summer research projects at the 2018 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting.
All eight students that participated in UNAVCO's 2018 RESESS internship program presented their summer research at the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting last week: Gabriela Fernandez, Adelicia Johnson, Joel Johnson, Zachary Little, Teodora Mitroi, Elizabeth Schaeffer, Haley Snyder-May, and Jordan Wachholtz. Over the summer, the students conducted authentic research alongside science mentors from the University of Colorado-Boulder, Colorado School of Mines, and Duke University. At the meeting in Washington, D.C., the interns shared their research discoveries with an international earth science community and engaged in meaningful converstations regarding science and diversity.
Students attended and presented at their first national conference, networked and collaborated with researchers involved in similar projects, and witnessed community interest in their work. They also volunteered at the UNAVCO booth where they shared about their internship experiences with other students and community members.
Research Experiences in Solid Earth Science for Students (RESESS) is an eleven-week summer research internship program for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students dedicated to increasing the diversity of students entering the geosciences.
