Crews met early this morning to begin working on the installation process. Another unusually sunny day in Sekiu, crews started out preparing the grouting pump and mixer. Test batches of grout were mixed to find the ideal consistency for the strainmeter install and to become familiar with the window of time available before the grout sets.
Meanwhile, the strainmeter instrument was unpacked and attached to the strainmeter data cable for testing. Such a sensitive instrument requires very careful handling and a clean environment. Any electrical or physical shock would damage the instrument.
Crews finished testing late in the afternoon after taking extra time making 100% sure the instrument is working and calibrated. A learning process for everyone, it is also essential that all crew members understand the different components of the installation process.
