2.7 Direct Project Support for FY97

Tables 2-9, 2-10, 2-11, and 2-12 show the present level of Boulder Facility support to be provided to either NSF-funded investigators or under the "Community Support" role in FY97. The field engineer and/or equipment support hours shown in the Tables represent only the time spent in direct support of the specific projects listed. These Tables are updated during the year on a quarterly basis to include newly-funded projects.

Along with the projects listed above requiring equipment and Facility staff support, the Data Acquisition Group will allocate resources to make improvements to continuous station support for FY97. Substantial resources were invested in FY96 to identify and design the necessary hardware for installing and supporting continuous stations. The focus for FY97 is to invest in the remote download software necessary for robust long term operation on a variety of platforms in a variety of communication situations.

Trimble Navigation plans a summer 1997 release of their R-Utilities software on various UNIX-based operating systems including SUN Solaris, Intel Solaris, and Linex. A new release of the UNAVCO download software will utilize these new tools and run on both SUN Solaris and Intel Solaris operating systems. The new remote download software, written by Field Engineer Dave Mencin, is called Local Automated Procedure for Downloading Operational GPS Data (LAPDOGS). A DOS-based remote data download and backup system, called the Automated Download Program (ADP), written by Deborah Martin, will also be released during the summer of 1997. FY98 plans include combining of LAPDOGS with JPL's TurboRogue download software (GNEX) on Linex platform. A long term goal is to also integrate an Ashtech download capability on these same platforms, once Ashtech provides support to UNIX-based downloading.
