This page contains a number of links related to a draft version of the PBO part of an EarthScope proposal to the National Science Foundation. The draft is being developed by Mike Jackson, under the direction of Will Prescott, and with a contributing cast of many people.

The major changes since it was circulated last summer are:

• Significantly updated the budget justification section (section 14)
• Added advisory committees and removed regional scientists
• Cleaned up monumentation section
• Added a section on Installation options (Section 5.7)
• Added a section on Geo-PBO (Section 10)
• Added a section on EarthScope Integration (Section 11)
• Added text throughout indicating areas of collaboration
• Extensive work on the budget

Context

In perusing the draft proposal, you should keep in mind that this is only one part of an EarthScope proposal. UNAVCO, Inc. is working with IRIS and SAFOD to integrate the PBO, USArray and SAFOD proposals into the single EarthScope proposal that will come out of this. In the process we are identifying areas where USArray and PBO will share facilities.

The Earthscope proposal is being assembled by the new EarthScope Facility Executive Committee.

PBO Standing Committee

The PBO Standing Committee (Frank Webb, Chair, John Beavan, Bill Holt, Sue Owen, Paul Segall, Paul Silver, and Mark Simons) was charged with reviewing an earlier draft of the proposal. They prepared a preliminary report reviewing the draft. In response to the Standing Committee comments, Mike Jackson was directed to modify the draft proposal. The current version of the proposal incorporates these comments and others.
