INTERFACE

INTERFACE was a collaborative project funded by NSF that produced specialized terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data processing and visualization software tools developed specifically for geoscience applications.

INTERFACE activities were centered on the development and accessibility of four integrated research and instructional components:

  • Measuring equipment such as the instruments in the UNAVCO TLS pool.
  • Software necessary to import and attribute data.
  • A seamless process (workflow) to allow manipulation of the collected data in a user environment for analysis and integration with other information.
  • Instruction to researchers and students in the theory and practice of digital field data acquisition.

INTERFACE investigators taught short courses at the 2009 and 2010 Geological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meetings and introduced TLS to undergraduate and graduate curricula such as Indiana University Geology Field Camp.

INTERFACE PI institutions included:

  • UNAVCO
  • University of Texas at Dallas
  • University of Kansas
  • Arizona State University
