Data Archive Interface Version 2 (DAIv2) - Public Alpha Release
November 6, 2008
The Data Archive Interface Version 2 (DAIv2) is the UNAVCO Facility's next generation interface for search and access of UNAVCO's GPS data holdings. The DAIv2 includes a powerful and flexible Web application (see figure 1) for discovery and visualization of UNAVCO's GPS data and metadata holdings. The DAIv2 also includes a suite of Java-based command-line clients for advanced users needing automated discovery and download (see figure 2). Both the Web application and the command-line clients utilize our new Web services infrastructure.

Puerto Rico Seismic Network Installations (II)
November 1, 2008
Unavco Engineers Sarah Doelger and Ellie Boyce recently completed the last three of six new CGPS stations located on several islands in the Caribbean. These stations will be incorporated into the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN) which is a division of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. These stations are co-located with velocitymeter and accelerometer equipment and now complete a real time broadband earthquake observation system. The combined instruments will record much longer period seismic waves, which is critical to monitor large earthquakes (e.g., M>8.0), particularly tsunamigenic earthquakes, and study long-period earthquake ground motions.

East Greenland Glacier Dynamics
October 14, 2008
A large-scale remote sensing project was recently developed by a group of researchers from Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Harvard University, the University of Maine, and the Institute for Space Sciences in Barcelona, Spain, with the aim of using GPS to better determine the dynamics of the glacial flow of these outlet glaciers. UNAVCO provided support for both the development and field portions of the project. Outlet glaciers on the perimeter of the Greenland Ice Sheet continuously feed fresh water into the Atlantic Ocean at the zone where the cryosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere meet, a highly complex and insufficiently understood area.

Benin's Millennium Challenge Account (MCA)
August 28, 2008
In 2006, Benin received a $300 million Millennium Challenge grant to improve core physical and institutional infrastructure and increase investment and private sector activity. A thorough national topographic survey will formalize property boundaries and improve cartographic capacities. The MCA constructed 7 identical GNSS continuously operating reference stations (across the country) for these purposes. The UNAVCO Facility provided consultation for equipment and monument construction as well as on-site installation instruction for the first two of the seven sites.
