Celia Rose Schiffman came to UNAVCO in October of 2007 as the EarthScope Content Specialist. She will be working on relating UNAVCO-supported research results to the public and developing a media-relations program. Celia is originally from western Massachusetts, and completed her undergraduate degree in Geology with a minor in English at Union College in Schenectady, New York. She went on to a Master’s degree program, also in geology, at Oregon State University in Corvallis, and her Master’s thesis was on seismotectonics in the eastern Precordillera of Argentina, focusing on the devastating 1944 San Juan earthquake. She then completed one year of a PhD program at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, where she worked on the Sumatran Fault, and is currently on a year and a half sabbatical that is enabling her to work for UNAVCO.
