Shelley Olds
Shelley OldsEducation & Outreach Specialist Shelley Olds is a member of the Education and Outreach team at UNAVCO to develop free educational materials for undergraduate and secondary Earth science courses, provide professional development opportunities for college and university faculty and K-12 teachers, and manage the web content for UNAVCO. These projects involve collaboration with scientists, educators, and UNAVCO's partner organizations. Shelley brings over ten years of experience in leading science education and professional development projects to the UNAVCO Education and Outreach Program. She holds a Masters of Arts in Instructional Systems Development and a Bachelors of Science in Geology/Geophysics. Most recently she was the education lead on the DLESE Teaching Box project at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO to facilitate collaborations between educators, scientists, designers, and technologists to develop classroom-ready instructional units that model scientific inquiry. Before this, Shelley worked in the NASA Earth Science Directorate's Education office to coordinate education programs and to support the Destination Earth website redesign. Shelley also brings many years of experience as a field geologist in environmental consulting to investigate Superfund and RCRA sites, develop remediation designs and implement remedial action plans.
