Susan ErikssonEducation and Outreach Director Vita [PDF] Susan Camenisch Eriksson is the Education and Outreach Director for UNAVCO, an NSF facility supporting high precision GPS for the study of crustal deformation. Dr. Eriksson was faculty in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech for 22 years and served as the first director of the Virginia Tech Museum of Natural History for 11 years. Several inquiry based projects resulted in wide dissemination, nation recognition, and publication (Cennamo and Eriksson 2001, Taylor et al, 1996). Dr. Eriksson taught thousands of general education students at Virginia Tech and was involved in university- and state-wide projects aimed at in-service and preservice teachers. Her latest position at Virginia Tech as Associate Dean for STEM programs bridged the culture between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education. Most recently she directed the educational component of a large research project in nanoscience. Five teachers participated in summer workshops and ongoing research with the nanoscience research group at Virginia Tech developing curriculum for secondary science classrooms (www.nanoed.vt.edu). Several preservice teachers were involved in this project. Last modified Monday, 07-Apr-08 15:03:00 |
