UNAVCO, Inc. is a nonprofit university-governed organization that supports and promotes Earth science, or other related fields of study, by advancing high-precision geodetic and strain techniques such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) or other related fields of study. Members are educational or nonprofit institutions chartered in the United States (US) or its Territories who are willing to make a clear and continuing commitment to active participation in the activities of the organization. Such activities include corporate governance and participation in decisions that affect the programs, facilities, and scientific mission of UNAVCO. Institutions that are engaged in research that advance the mission of UNAVCO, but that otherwise do not qualify for membership (e.g., non-US educational or research institutions), may be accepted for Associate Membership.
Before applying for Member or Associate Member status, please ensure that you have read the UNAVCO Bylaws carefully. In addition to meeting the various membership requirements stipulated in the bylaws, once you are notified of conditional acceptance you must remit a $1000 membership fee made out to UNAVCO, Inc. (please do not send a check until you are so notified). Membership terms must be renewed every three years but a renewal does not require an additional fee.
To apply for institutional membership, please use the on-line Membership Application Form. Shortly after your application is received and conditional approval is granted, you will be notified of the next steps including where to remit the fee. In the event that your application is not approved, or more information is needed, you will be notified.
The Representative is appointed in writing by the appropriate executive officer of each Member, and represents the Member in all communications and interaction between the Member and the Corporation.
