Front Range Geology Field Trip – 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Nearly two billion years of geologic history are on display within a few miles of our meeting site in Boulder. From the 1.7 billion-year-old granite and metamorphic rocks in Boulder Canyon to the 3 million-year old Rocky Flats erosional surface along the foothills to the south, a stunning variety of rock types, sedimentary depositional environments, paleontological finds, structural and erosional features, and mineral deposits can be seen in a short time. We'll take a three-hour bus and walking tour of many of the highlights, including the Flatirons (Fountain Formation) that are erosional remnants of the Paleozoic Ancestral Rocky Mountains, Contact Corner on Flagstaff Mountain, the Lyons sandstone from which buildings on the CU campus are made, and the Dakota hogback in north Boulder.

The Field Trip fee is $15 per seat.  Please indicate if you are interested on the Registration form.

Busses will load out side of the main entrance of the Millennium Hotel at 1:00pm and will return at 4:00pm.

Tour of the UNAVCO Facility – 1:00pm to 2:30pm

The UNAVCO Facility in Boulder is the primary operational arm of UNAVCO.  This tour is concurrent with the Front Range Geology Field Trip.  Please indicate if you are interested on the Registration Form.  There is not a fee associated with this Tour.
