Governance - Board Candidates
Matthew Pritchard - Cornell University![]() Candidacy StatementAs a member of the board of directors, my primary objective would be to work with the UNAVCO staff and WInSAR members to increase access to InSAR and other imagining geodesy data. Improved access means not only larger data volumes, but open source software processing tools, and training for students and researchers. As a board member, I would bring the perspectives of both an active researcher who uses imagining geodesy to study deformation from volcanoes, the earthquake cycle, groundwater, landslides and glaciers and someone involved in developing software to process the increasing variety of data available (see, roipac.org). Since accepting hosting duties for WInSAR, UNAVCO has made good progress in increasing access to imagining geodesy data (e.g., GeoEarthscope), but there is still much to do and the data availability situation is constantly evolving. In the near future, there will be many choices made about data and archive formats from the 7-8 active or legacy InSAR satellites. For example, I have been coordinating (on behalf of WInSAR) a large allocation of data from the Japanese ALOS satellite over Latin America on a case by case basis, but a better method of organizing data orders and archives is needed for this and other regions of the world. As a board member, I would help link UNAVCO, WInSAR, and the research community to make sure these choices will best facilitate data access for new and experienced users of imagining geodesy data.
