The GeoEarthScope SIG will include 1) the latest news on GeoEarthScope program structure and funding, 2) updates on the current projects, and 3) the outlook for future EarthScope projects that include the acquisition of aerial and satellite imagery (e.g. LiDAR and InSAR) and geochronology, including support available from UNAVCO.

Broadening Participation in our Science

From engaging children in science to recruiting new researchers here and abroad, how does our community communicate and educate people about our science? This panel will lead a discussion of ways that we currently engage new people and how we can produce a more diverse group of geodesists, work with our colleagues overseas, and help colleagues meet the Broader Impact goals of NSF.

Instrumentation Challenges for the International Polar Year

We will provide an update on sensor, power, and communication development efforts, the related IRIS/UNAVCO MRI Proposal, and a forum for discussion of future activities in support of IPY GPS and seismic initiatives.

The EarthScope Plate Boundary Observatory, operated by UNAVCO and funded by the National Science Foundation, is halfway through the five year construction phase. The PBO SIG will provide an update to the UNAVCO science community on all aspects of PBO progress including GPS, borehole strainmeter, and long baseline strainmeter construction, the status of Nucleus upgrades, EarthScope funded campaign GPS projects, data products generation and dissemination, and Geo-EarthScope activities. UNAVCO field and data engineers will be on hand to answer any questions.
